The WPGA is saddened to learn of the passing of former Association President David Kuhar on March 6, 2025.
Kuhar served as President of the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Board of Directors in 2012, as well as several committees during his ten-year service on the WPGA Board of Directors.
A long-time golf professional and member of the PGA of America, Kuhar served as the Head Golf Professional at Chestnut Ridge Resort for 25 years. He also served as Head Professional at Sinking Valley Country Club, Champion Lakes Golf Course and Ebensburg Country Club.
A native of Seward, Pennsylvania, Kuhar took up golf at the age of 13 and worked as a teenager at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Vintondale, Pa.
Kuhar went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and worked as a golf professional at Quicksilver Golf Club. He took over as the Head Professional at Chestnut Ridge in 1982.
In 2002, Kuhar became the first PGA professional to ever serve on the WPGA Board of Directors and went on to be the first professional to be named President of the WPGA.
In addition to his service to the WPGA, Kuhar also sat on the USGA Committee overseeing the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. He was a four-time winner of the Merchandiser of the Year Award for the Tri-State PGA.
Kuhar was 67 years old. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan, as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Friends will be received Sunday, March 9 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., Johnstown, Pa. Father Brian L. Warchola, officiating. Interment, Armagh Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
