Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Teams

The Association has participated in matches with other organizations for nearly fifty years. The WPGA competes against the Tri-State Section, PGA of America, in the Palmer Cup Matches each September at Latrobe Country Club, the annual site since 1995. Each August, the WPGA Junior Team is selected to compete in the Williamson Cup Matches against eleven other regional golf associations throughout the northeast and Canada in a thirty-six-hole stroke play competition, college format.

In 1996, local businessman and golf philanthropist Frank B. Fuhrer generously agreed to fund these matches. The teams have been named after Mr. Fuhrer, and the teams wear uniforms embroidered with the Frank B. Fuhrer Team designation.

Members of the Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Williamson Cup & Palmer Cup teams are named based on player standings in the Junior Honor Roll Standings and the Men's Honor Roll Standings in the Honor Roll Center.

Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Williamson Cup Team

The Williamson Cup was established in 1964 by A. Fred Williamson, in memory of his father, one of the original founders of the famed Winged Foot Golf Club and a long-time member of the USGA Executive Committee.

Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Palmer Cup Team

Each September, the Association's finest amateurs take on their fellow Tri-State Section, PGA of America professionals in the Palmer Cup Matches at Latrobe Country Club. The Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Team that participates in the Palmer Cup consists of ten amateurs and four senior amateurs. The competition is thirty-six holes of match play with individual matches in the morning and four-ball in the afternoon. The Tri-State Section holds an edge in the series record.
