Located in Churchill, the Edgewood Country Club is one of the oldest and most recognized clubs in Western Pennsylvania. Celebrating 125 years of existence, Edgewood is the host site for the 120th WPGA Open Championship taking place from June 19-21, 2023.
The par-70, 6500-yard course is the handiwork of one of the greatest architects in the history of the game, Donald Ross. Despite the course having moved three times prior to settling into its current location on Churchill Road, Ross’s name has been and will forever be associated with Edgewood Country Club. With Ross on hand a great deal of the time, he oversaw more than 3,000 men who built the current layout that opened on July 4, 1922.
Edgewood is a venue synonymous with hosting Western Pennsylvania's most elite golfers. Since the club's inception, they have hosted numerous WPGA Championships and USGA qualifying rounds, including the WPGA Amateur Championship six times (1932, 1939, 1946, 1965, 1969 & 1977), the WPGA Open Championship four times (1954, 1959, 2001 & 2023), and the WPGA Women’s Amateur Championship in 2005. Inductees to the Western Pennsylvania Golf Hall of Fame have won at Edgewood. James Simons won the Amateur in 1969, and Jack Benson won the Amateur in 1932 and 1939.
Edgewood has also contributed greatly to WPGA leadership. John C. Salonik (1959), Richard W. Hurrell (1983), and Clifford Lyon (2006) all served as WPGA Presidents, in addition to many serving on the WPGA Executive Committee. Craig Borst, WPGA Director of Competitions, served as Head Golf Professional from 1996-2000.
In celebration of the club’s 125th Anniversary, the 120th playing of the WPGA Open Championship was conducted at Edgewood, won by Beau Titsworth.
